July 13, 2013 from 10am to 4pm
By the bubbling water of the Creek Walk in Bakersville under the big tent, the 15th annual Toe River Storytelling Festival will once again delight young and old with stories and music.
The festival will continue its long standing reputation for excellence in storytelling with an all-star line-up of tellers: Carmen Deedy, Gwenda Ledbetter, Tim Lowry, Donna Washington, and regional tellers Wallace Shealy, Lona Bartlett, and Sherry Lovett. Exemplifying the art of storytelling that is our birth-right in the Appalachian Mountains our storytellers will take you on a toe-tapping, belly-laughing, nostalgic-sighing, tear-wiping journey and back again with stories that remind us we are not alone in this world; we’re all in this stew of life together. Not only that, but you’ll be thoroughly entertained.
The Toe River Storytelling Festival is a cultural-heritage-must for those who live in the Appalachian Mountains as well as for those who visit. It is through stories that we best know who we are, remember where we come from, and gain hope for where we are going. Please come join us at the 15th annual Toe River Storytelling Festival in Bakersville for a day to remember.
